Initiative „Holy Land“ Project healing plants garden in the district of Solokhumbu
Tesho in Khumbu Mt. Everest Region Nepal
My name is Amchi Lhakpa Nuru Sherpa and I live in Kathmandu. I have studied Tibetan Buddhist medicine (in Tibetan Sowa Rigpa, the science of healing) in Men Tse Khang Tibetan Medical Institute Chagpori in the district of Darjeeling, Western Bengal, India. I have started my studies in 1992 and graduated in 1996 as Amchi. In order to obtain more practical experience and further teachings, I have passed another three years studying under honorable Trogawa Rinpoche. He was one of the last great Amchi Rinpoches and has studied at the legendary Men Tse Khang Medical Institute Chagpori in Lhasa, former Tibet. My teacher, mentor and uncle, honorable Tengboche Rinpoche, in his kindness advised me to enlarge my experience and my studies like this. He is really very warm-hearted and without his assistance and grace I would not have had the possibility to do these studies.
Nowadays, the medical plants become rarer and rarer and slowly disappear because so many pharmaceutical companies in China and India also use them. These companies usually do not consider to replant these for the future. Our plantation is meant to create an awareness for Tibetan Sowa Rigpa, the Buddhist medicine from the Himalayas and for the necessity to maintain the medical plants in this region. The plants disappear due to the demand which is by far exceeding the regrowth and by unregulated harvesting of wild plants by the pharmaceutical companies which are not trained to do a sustainable harvest.
The project we are starting right now is to be a common enterprise headed by the Sowa Rigpa Foundation and the Institute for Sowa Rigpa Sciences in Boppard / Rhine under Amchi and healer Anna Elisabeth Bach.
We are all very worried about these circumstances. The Sowa Rigpa Foundation consults us in the development and maintenance of herbal medicine from the Himalayas. We need your support and your advice. For further information please contact us in Germany: phone +49 (0)674 2804347 mobile: +49 (0)160 97331272 E-Mail: institutsowarigpa@posteo.de
Plantation in Tesho, Khumbu, Mt. Everest area, Nepal
It is vital for the upkeeping of the plantation to build a research center in the form of a small building on site. It would be used to store devices and equipment for the plantation, for research and the production of medicine tea. The students of the Sowa Rigpa Institute can deepen their knowledge of the medical plants of the Himalayas and the local Sherpas can spread their knowledge within the community and abroad so that the Buddhist medicine tradition stays alive.
For many years now, Tengboche Rinpoche is interested in this plantation and he is highly estimated by everybody. It is his great wish that the knowledge of Buddhist medicine from the Himalayas, Sowa Rigpa, can grow and be kept alive for future generations. This is why we all make wishes for the successful course of our mission, vision and their realization.
We believe it is very important to create a connection to other foundations who are active in the field of environment protection, wooden products, traditional medicine, ecotourism etc.
Overview of the project initiative “Holy Land”.
The healing plant garden is located around the small house with the red roof. The house needs to be restored, and the ground must be prepared for the plantation. On the right side, there is a small creek flowing down the mountainside so that there is enough water for the irrigation.
